Received his medical degree in Belgium from the Catholic University of Louvain, where he also specialized in pediatrics. He completed his training in pediatric nephrology at the Boston Children’s Hospital and moved to the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital in Rome, Italy, where he was appointed head of the Pediatric Nephrology Division in 2005. He also holds the position of Coordinator for translational research and for research on rare diseases.  Dr Emma’s primary research interests lie in rare kidney diseases, in particular cystinosis, tubular disorders, and nephrotic syndrome.
